The General Officer Commanding 8th Division Nigeria Army, Major General Uwen Bassey says the Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association NAOWA is transforming the socio-educational and economic development of women and children in the Nigeria Army.

He stated this at the commissioning of NAOWA secretariat and a six classroom for nursery and primary school at Giginya Barrack in Sokoto state.

Major General Uwen Bassey said the current president of the NAOWA would surely leave footprints that would withstand the test of time in the history of the Association, through projects and human capital development that have direct bearing to the development of not only the Nigeria Army but the country in general.

Addressing newsmen at the event, NAOWA president Mrs Salamatu Farouk Yahaya said that the commissioning of the projects is an affirmation of her vision to sustaining the legacies of her predecessors of ensuring unity and development.

She noted that NAOWA has adopted new approach towards standardizing its schools through structural development, staff training, adequate resource management and provision of facilities for all NAOWA schools in the country.

The President of the association also provided medical equipment such as incubators , oxygen concentrator , patients monitor, infant resuscistators, and phototherapy machines to the Army hospital in the barack.

Earlier, the chairperson of the NAOWA 8 Division Nigeria Army Mrs Glory Bassey thanked Mrs Farouk for providing funds for the construction of the school, stressing that the gesture has created conducive learning environment for the teachers and pupils.
