LL-R UN Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez and President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari today received in audience the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, now on an official visit to Nigeria.

Prior to visiting the President, Mr. Guterres had paid a visit to a Maiduguri camp, where surrendered terrorists are receiving rehabilitation, as well as Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State.

Speaking with State House correspondents after his visit to the President, Mr. Guterres affirmed that the UN had made contingency arrangements to diffuse the effects of the war on countries’ sustenance in food and economy.

He explained that the UN had increased its actions in Ukraine, but had not decreased its actions in all other parts of the world.

The UN scribe stressed that adopting military option alone could not end terrorism, saying that the best way to end it is sustaining the onslaught on them and exploring as well as exploiting its root causes.

He commended President Buhari’s sustained support to the efforts of the Federal and Borno State Governments at ending the war, and the compassion shown to repentant terrorists.
