Cholera Outbreak : BOSG Closes Response, Records Zero Case

The Borno state government has declared  the cholera outbreak response closed after eight months of active operation.

State Commissioner for Health Comrade Juliana Bitrus made the declaration at a media briefing in Maiduguri. 

The Commissioner announced that Borno has not recorded any suspected case across the state in the past three months. 

According to her since August, 2021 when the emergency response was activated, the state has recorded 6,422 cases with 170 deaths in eighteen local government areas.

“In line with the current development, I Commissioner of Health on behalf of government and people of Borno state wish to close the 2021cholera outbreak response ” Comrade Juliana announce.

Comrade Bitrus explained that the outbreak was contained following aggressive surveillance and response plan put in place by the high powered committee on cholera outbreak and control headed by Chief of Staff to Governor Babagana Zulum with the support of ministries, department and agencies. 

She identified some of the measures put in place by the state government to prevent another outbreak particularly during the rainy season to include strengthening surveillance system at the community level, improve water, sanitation and hygiene activities and proposition of cholera commodities. 

The Commissioner called on residents to improve on their personal and environmental hygiene to prevent future cholera outbreak.
