Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to hand over ticketing and passenger identity to the company contracted to co-ordinate the E-Ticketing platform for the Abuja-Kaduna rail service.

In a statement, the Ministry’s Director of Press, Mr Eric Ojiekwe, said the directive was given when the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) presented the Full Business Case Certificates (FBC) for the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri E-Ticketing services to the Ministry.

According to him, the use of the E-Ticketing technology for Abuja-Kaduna raised monthly income from roughly N100 million to N400 million, thus preventing revenue leakages.

“…so that we know that what we are battling with is not a crisis in our terminals but on the way, and I believe that that also will be sorted out as we go to cabinet for approval of the security gadgets.”

According to the statement, the ICRC’s Acting Director-General, Mr Michael Ohiani, had briefed the Minister that the 10-year concession would produce more than N140 billion and create over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
