Federal government has approved the setting up of thirty megawatts of solar power plants in critical areas of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Similarly, the Federal government through the Rural Electrification Agency will also establish a twelve megawatts solar facility at the University of Maiduguri.
The Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo stated this at the official handing over of Muhammadu Indimi International Learning Centre and Conference Hall at the University of Maiduguri.
The Muhammadu Indimi International Learning Centre and one thousand seater world class conference centre was inaugurated in December last year by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Four months later, the Vice President is handing over the multi-billion naira edifice to the management of University of Maiduguri.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo says President Buhari’s administration is investing in tertiary education in the county.
According to him, University of Maiduguri has been captured under the second phase of Energising Education Programme in addition to a training centre.
The Vice President explained that to augment the shortage of electricity supply to Maiduguri, thirty megawatts of solar plants would be established in the metropolis.
Professor Osinbajo commended the donor Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi for constructing and subsequent handing over the edifice.
Speaking, Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum described Alhaji Indimi as a pillar in the rehabilitation and recovery effort.
He also commended Professor Osinbajo for supporting children orphaned by Boko Haram insurgency through the North East Children Trust Fund.
The Donor of the Project Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi stressed the need for a collaborative effort among well-meaning Nigerians to address the growing number of out-of-school children.
He expressed hope that the facility would add value for benefit of the humanity.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri Professor Aliyu Shugaba thanked the renowned philanthropist for improving the learning facility in the institution.
