President Muhammadu Buhari has described as deeply distressing the destruction of buildings and assets of the police as well as the home of the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, a leading voice of moderation in the affairs of the country, Professor George Obiozor.

President Buhari, who strongly condemned the violence in the subregion, called for the maintenance of peace, saying that the law and order situation in the entire southeast is being reviewed.

In a statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari says the police and other agencies are working to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest.

He extends sympathies to the police authorities over the losses of men and materials, and to Professor Obiozor, whom he urges to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of the federation against these odds.
