Department of State Services says a conspiracy to foment violence in the north-central zone has been uncovered.

The objective, according to the security agency, in a statement is to “create ethno-religious turmoil, ignite reprisals, and heat up the polity”.

DSS public relations officer, Peter Afunanya, said the sponsors of the plot “have mobilized foot soldiers and had multiple meetings”.

A scheme to employ students, striking University teachers, labour unions, unhappy individuals, and strategic groups, as well as using the global energy situation, to carry out a large demonstration like the EndSARS has also been identified by the Service, he said in the statement.

This is despite ongoing efforts by Government to address the issues”, the statement continues.

It claimed to be on the trail of what it described as “agents of destabilisation” who are motivated by the desire to use violence in order to achieve their objectives.

Furthermore, the security service cautioned residents to avoid being exploited to harm “their own country”.
