Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC has indicted the Ministry of Labour and Employment as well as the University College Hospital, Ibadan of padding their nominal rolls.

Chairman of the commission, Professor Bolaji Owasonaye, stated this at a public hearing organized by the House of Representatives Committee on anti-corruption and public service matters in Abuja.

Prof Bolaji Owasonaye explained that the commission gathered the information based on the directive of the office of the head of the service to investigate high levels of corruption on nominal rolls of Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs of government.

The ICPC Chairman who also revealed that the practice had become very rampant recently in some MDAs, the situation he said has deserved prompt action to address the anomaly.

In a submission, the Chairman Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Mr Ekpo Nta, noted that surpluses detected from the ministries of Education and Health if adequately harnessed would cater for staff remuneration in addressing the incessant strike actions.

Also speaking, the Chairman house committee on information National Orientation ethics and values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi advocated strong penalty for perpetrators of irregularities going on in the civil service to serve as deterrent.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that MDA’s that attended the public hearing includes ministries of finance, transport, defence as well as the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and the National Orientation Agency.
