Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) says it has arrested five suspects over alleged impersonation as Civil Defence officials from Abuja and extorting money from unsuspecting petrol stations in Ilorin metropolis.

A statement by the Commands spokesman Babawale Afolabi said investigations has commenced to know if the suspects are running a syndicate with other members.

According to him on the 8th of March, 2022 the command anti vandal unit led by ACC Yusuf Ayinde Olatunji got an intelligence report that some group of men, who put on uniforms of civil defence have been going around filling stations in Ilorin metropolis claiming to be members of national task force on assignment from Abuja.

Afolabi said after meeting with the managers of the petrol stations, the suspects will extort money from them.

He explained that during interrogation, the suspects claimed to be members of the Importers Association of Nigeria and have been going around extorting money from unsuspecting petrol sellers.

He urged petrol stations managers and the general public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement around them to the command for prompt action.
