Reunion Meeting : Association Tasked On Unity, Selflessness

The need for individuals in the country to support Government with education facilities to complement its effort toward providing quality education to the citizenry has been stressed.

This and many other issues formed part of discussion during the reunion meeting of Science School Birnin Gwari Old Boys Association, SSBGOBA, class of ’94 in Kaduna.

Member of the Association and lecturer at the department of Agricultural Economist, kaduna state university Mr. Kasim Idris Abdulrauf said the reunion meeting became imperative following the need to design and come up with a strategic plan on how to assist themselves and also upgrade the school that has impacted positively on their lives.

According to Mr. Idris Abdulrauf, the group is determined to execute projects in the school as part of their strategic plan with a view to contributing their quota to the development of education sector in kaduna state.

Expressing excitement during the program, he said after 28 years of graduation, some of them had excel in various field of endeavors including academics, while others have found themselves in the corporate world and promoting national development.

On his part, Mr. Gideon Ango who is also a member of SSBGOBA, ’94 set explained that the event was targeted at bringing members of the association together in unity, and to remind them of the good old days in Science School Birnin Gwari, as well as come up with a line of action on how to support and encourage themselves on the way forward.

In a keynote address, the Head-Boy, ’94 set of Science School Birnin Gwari Mr. Benjamin Ishaya who expressed gratitude to God for seeing them through, also thanked their teachers for guiding them in their early period of academic pursuit which according to him, served as a ladder that paved the way for them in the journey of life.

The ex – head boy said the reunion meeting was beyond feasting, but to reinforce their common bond, rekindle friendship and reinvigorate their spirit of love in appreciation of life in their parallel journey.

While urging them to disregard their individual, ethnic or religious differences, Mr. Ishaya who decried the difficulties associated with the time ranging from insecurity, economic and health challenges among others, said there was need for them to be their brother’s keeper, as well as love and support one another as one family.

He solicited that the reunion meeting should be made an annual event to avail them the opportunity to always come together to see one another and to also make useful deliberation that will move the association forward.

Invited guest at the event, his Royal Highness, the Emir of Birnin Gwari Mal. Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari the 2nd described the meeting as timely and urged them to sustain the initiative toward promoting the development of education in the state.

Represented by the turakin Birnin Gwari, Hon.Prince.Jibril Zubairu Jibril, the Emir reiterated his commitment to always stand with them at all time toward ensuring that the set goals and objectives of the association is achieved.

Climax of the occasion was the presentation of award for humanitarian service to two former teachers of the school Dr. Peter Agbugui and Malam Hamisu Abubakar who had demonstrated the spirit of commitment and steadfastness during their time.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Mal. Hamisu Abubakar and long serving teacher of the school tasked them not to forget their Almamata by ensuring the event became an annual duty where they could meet periodically and crossed fertilise ideas on how to better improve on themselves and the School.

He identified areas of need in the school to include: physical infrastructure, laboratories, educational facilities such as well as classrooms and hostels, noting that, the present upgrade noticeable at the school was the intervention of an old student just like them.

During the reunion meeting, a minute silence was observed in honor of the departed souls among them, and prayed God to preserve their souls until eternity.
