National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents intercepted 9.30 kilos of cocaine valued at over N2.7 billion at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, said in a statement that the alleged trafficker, Maduabuchi Chinedu, 32, was a Liberian miner.
He said the suspect was arrested at the Abuja airport during an inward joint check of Ethiopian Airlines aircraft 911 with 9.30kg of cocaine, each pellet wrapped in candy and stashed in his luggage.
The suspect stated during his preliminary questioning that he fled Nigeria in 2018 and settled in Liberia, where he now has a resident visa, according to the Babafemi.
He praised the officers and men of the Agency’s NAIA Command for their vigilance and collaborative efforts with other security agencies at the airport to reduce trafficking of illicit drugs.
