The House Committee on Internally Displaced Persons has assured the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons of the National Assembly’s commitment to ensure the Commission achieve its goal to resettle and reintegrate all forms of displacement within the legislative framework.

Chairman House Committee on Internally Displaced Persons Alhaji Muhammad Jega gave the assurance in Abuja when he led a delegation on an oversight visit to the Commission

Alhaji Jega explained that the visit was within its constitutional mandate and the Commission was required to give progress report and performance of 2021 fiscal year, budget compliance and implementation reports.

 “Total appropriation and releases, details on the implementation of both capital and recurrent budget stating clearly the procurement procedure, warrant of release and authority to incurred expenditure, impacts and achievements in the resettlement and reintegration of refugees and IDPs and the provision of durable solutions towards self-reliance as well as details of any collaboration with any development partner local or International in the provision of humanitarian interventions,”

Responding, the Federal Commissioner National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim explained that the Commission has adopted a 5 Working Plan but appealed for more funding to ensure the Commission meets the need of all Persons of Concern.

“There is need for special intervention fund to effectively match the growing numbers of these Persons of Concern with the appropriate interventions and sustainable solutions that assures their long-term sustainability and productivity,”

Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim recommended the Expansion of the Resettlement city project to other states, Strengthening of Internal Framework, synchronization of all available data for proper referencing and planning.
