Minister for Communications and Digital economy, Dr Ali Pantami, has urged Nigerian youths to explore and effectively utilize digital economy in the country.

Pantami made the call during a virtual keynote address at the Social Media Influencers Summit organised by Centre for Information Technology and Development,held at Digital skills institute Kano.

The minister who was represented by the Executive Director Universal Service Provisions Fund (USPF) Mr Yusha’u Ayuba, explained that Digital economy could be used to achieve good governance.

He pointed out that the federal government has a passion to assist the youths in exploring opportunities available to improve their lives according to international world practices.

Dr. Pantami reiterated the present administration’s commitment to support the outcome of the summit, in every way possible for the benefit of the teeming Nigerian youths.

In a remark, Executive Director Centre for Information, Technology and Development (CITAD) Dr Yunusa Zakariyau, charged youths on positive utilization of social media.

He described the social media as a tool for addressing problems bedeviling the country such as security and corona virus pandemic and called for urgent regulation of digital media platforms.

In his contribution, a researcher at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Management, Dr. Chris Kwaja tasked the youths on effective utilisation of skills.

He said that one of the biggest transformation witnessed in the world, was the emergence of the social media as a computer based technology, saying that the social media has became a major catalyst for the transfer of information across communities.

The summit tagged ‘KANO SOCIAL INFLUENCERS SUMMIT 2021’ was organized to provide orientation to the youths on exploration and utilization of social media for good governance and national development.

The Summit attracted all stakeholders in the Information Technology sector, as well as Digital Economy, to brainstorm on how to use the social media for national development.
