In a statement, the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and secretary of the LPPC, Mrs. Hajo Bello, says the decision to elevate the 72 candidates to the prestigious rank of SAN was taken at the LPPC’s 149th plenary session held at the Supreme Court.

Among the successful candidates are the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Mr Tony Ojukwu; a former Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr Ikeazor Akaraiwe and a former Secretary of the NBA, Mr. Emeka Obegolu.

While a 91-year-old Professor of Law, Professor Ajagbe Oyewo, who is also a traditional chief in Oyo State, was among the 10 academics who were elevated into the prestigious rank.

The successful candidates would be conferred with the rank on the 8th of December at the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad.
