NBA Commissioner, Adams Silver

The NBA says a significant spread of coronavirus will cause the season to be shut down for a second time.

According to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, the season was set to restart at Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida on 30 July, after it was suspended on 11th March.

He said since 23rd June, 25 out of 351 players have tested positive for Covid-19.

The Commissioner noted that players who have already tested positive were to self-isolate and can return to training once they have been cleared by a physician.

Adams Silver confirmed that players and staff were expected to be tested three times a week and would stay in a quarantine environment for the duration of the competition, which could run until October.

He maintained that twenty two teams; 13 from the Western Conference and nine from the Eastern Conference would travel to Orlando for training camps.

The Commissioner added that teams would play in eight games each to determine seedings for the play-offs at the resort’s 5,000-seat indoor basketball facility, but without spectators.
