Trailer drivers have blocked the popular Minna Suleja Abuja road in protest to the closure of Minna Bida road by Niger state government.

The blockage at Lambata has brought about long queues of vehicles that paralysis social and economic activities in the area.

It had also obstructed vehicular movement on the busy highway where by the protesters insisted that they were not going to suspend their protest until Niger state government reopens Bida Minna road that has been closed down for about nine months.

The Minna Bida road has also been closed thereby forcing articulated drivers to use Bida Lapai Lambata road that has been in a serious state of disrepair making them to spend days before reaching their destination.

Some motorists flying such roads who were stranded appealed to the Niger state government to urgently intervene to ameliorate their hardship.

In a swift reaction Niger state Commissioner for Information and Strategy Alh Muhammad Sani Idris said there is no going back on the closure of Minna Bida road.

Alh Muhammad Sani Idris explained that such blockage became necessary to enable them save the millions of naira expended by Niger state government on repairs and constitution of that road hitherto wasted by trailer and tanker driver’s due to overload and wreckless driven.

According to him he is now in Abuja together with Commissioner of Works Alh Mamman Musa to see the Minister of Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola on the issue since it’s a Federal road.

Alh Muhammad Sani Idris argued that both Niger state Governor Alh Abubakar Sani Bello and some stakeholders in the state have pleaded with Federal Government times without number to construct the road to cushion hardship faced by motorists flying such areas but has not yielded fruitful result.

Correspondent Aliyu Lawal report that up to the time of filing in this report the protest by trailer drivers on Minna Suleja Abuja road has been on for about five hours.
