The Kebbi State Government in collaboration with Medicaid Foundation and Johnson and Johnson has conducted a free screening for over five hundred eligible men for prostate cancer with three found positive.

Commissioner for Health, Jafar Mohammed Zuru, revealed this on the occasion to mark the World Cancer Day in Birnin Kebbi.

The Commissioner said that, the screening was carried out using Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) estimation.

Mohammed Zuru, explains that, of the number screened, seventy six suspected cases were found whose PSA value was high and that they were subjected for further evaluation with the help of using Ultrasound and biopsy procedures.

He added that, other patients also screened would be closely monitored as their PSA values would be subjected to check every six months.

According to him, there are currently twenty four prostate cancer patients receiving free treatment at the State Chemotherapy Center in Kalgo.

Zuru pointed out that, some of the patients receiving treatment at the center are from Federal Medical Center Birnin Kebbi and Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital Sokoto(UDUTH).

“Over five hundred eligible men received free screening for Prostate Cancer in the state, Cancer patients get support through the tremendous effort of Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu wife of the State Governor”.

The Commissioner revealed that, this year, they intend to create more awareness about
prostate cancer and the ample opportunities that are abound in Kebbi State.
