United Nations-UN has released the sum of two million dollars to Nigerian Government to procure essential medical supplies to help contain the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon stated this at a national conference in Abuja on the COVID-19 crisis.

According to Edward Kallon , United Nations system in Nigeria will support rapid procurement of disease commodity packages for surveillance, prevention, control and clinical management.

He also noted that the UN will support Government’s efforts to immediately set up a national response fund that will serve as a single national platform and financing framework to coordinate partnerships and mobilize resources that can make an effective impact on the country.

Mr. Kallon said there was urgent need for more collaborations, given the multifaceted nature of the virus and its impact on Nigeria’s economy and society.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, thanked the United Nations for its support promising that Federal Government would ensure the resources were deployed where they are needed most.

Dr. Osagie Ehanire also said the Ministry was prepared for both worst-case and best-case scenarios.
