A group of unrepentant bandits have stormed Faru Village of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State killing about forty innocent people.

Confirming the incident to Radio Nigeria Correspondent in Gusau, an eye witness and resident of Faru, Ahmad Lawali said the attack was a reprisal mission in Faru district of Maradun local government area of the state.

According to him, the bandits raided the town at around 4:30 pm on Thursday and began shooting sporadically at innocent people which resulted to the death of thirty nine persons mainly men.

He said the bandits trailed some farmers who were busy working in their farms and opened fire on them during the invasion.

The eye witness claimed that the bandits were said to be on reprisal mission following the arrest and killing of two bandits by a group of vigilantes known as Yansakai Group along Mafara- Faru road who were arrested with two AK-47 riffles on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies have been buried according to Islamic rights after Friday’s prayer.

When contacted, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer S. P. Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident and said only thirty five people lost their lives as a result of the attack by bandits in the area.

He added that a joint task force comprising of the military, police, and civil defense personnels have been deployed to the area and normalcy restored.
