Nigerian Army says it takes pride in identifying with notable public figures who have made positive impact on the society.

Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya stated this in a message he sent to the country home of veteran actor-Usman Baba Pategi, popularly known as Samanja.

Represented by Brigadier General Vitalis Okoro, the Army Chief explained that he was informed of the health challenges of the veteran actor and felt obliged to lend some support.

He maintained that the Nigerian Army was excited about how Samanja positively projected the image of the Army by giving the Nigerian public, an insight on how Army barracks looked like, and the niche he has carved out for himself in the entertainment industry.

Major General Faruk Yahaya pointed out that besides all that Samanja has done in casting the Army in positive light, he remains an icon of the Nigerian Army.

Responding, the visibly elated Samanja, who recalled with nostalgia, his stint in the Army, expressed his immense gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for identifying with him.

Alhaji Usman Baba Pategi also prayed for the continued peaceful co-existence of Nigeria.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a cash gift of Two Million naira to Samanja by representative of the Army Chief.

It would be recalled that last week, Samanja debunked rumours that made round about his death.
