Kwara state government says successful implementation of the National Livestock Transformation programme (NLTP) will drive productivity in agriculture and achieve self sufficiency in food production


Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mrs Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin stated this while Declaring – open a three-day training workshop on the programme ahead of its implementation in the state.

According to her, the state will participate in the programme to empower citizens, guarantee food security and boost productivity.  

She said the state government had assembled a robust and highly experienced project management team to ensure success of the Programme.

Afolabi-Oshatimehin  explained that the training is aimed at equipping the enumerators on how to effectively aggregate data needed for the National Livestock Transformation Programme. 


She noted that Nigeria imports $1.3 Billion worth of dairy and milk products annually and that the state is strategically positioned to take advantage of opportunities inherent in Livestock value chain. Afolabi-Oshatimehin said the state government has allocated resources to support quick roll out of the programme. About 3000 N-Power Agro Corps were being trained to take the necessary data that would help in implementing the Programme.
