The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, describing June 12 as a defining symbol of the nation’s journey toward democratic governance, the rule of law, and accountability.
Falgore made the remarks in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, and made available to journalists in Kano.
According to the Speaker, the significance of June 12 transcends partisan politics and the challenges of the past, as it represents the collective will of the people, their courage, and their unwavering demand for accountable leadership.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices and resilience of all stakeholders who have contributed to the growth and sustenance of democratic governance in Nigeria, noting that the country’s democratic journey has been marked by notable achievements since the return to civilian rule.
While acknowledging the progress made, Falgore emphasized that several challenges still stand in the way of fully realizing the ideals of democracy.
He therefore reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to promoting inclusive governance and strengthening democratic institutions across the state.
The Speaker also reaffirmed the Kano State House of Assembly’s dedication to meeting the aspirations of the people through effective lawmaking and oversight functions.
“The Assembly remains fully committed to the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of Kano State. We will continue to enact quality legislation that directly improves the living standards of our citizens and promotes sustainable development,” he said.
Falgore called on Nigerians to remain united and work collectively toward safeguarding democratic values, justice, and development.
The speaker stressed the need for citizens to actively participate in governance and support efforts aimed at building a more equitable and prosperous society.
He further urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to fostering a system where justice, development, accountability, and citizen engagement are not merely ideals but realities experienced by all.
On behalf of the members of the Kano State House of Assembly, Falgore extended his congratulations to the people of Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of Democracy Day.
He expressed hope that the nation’s democratic institutions would continue to grow stronger, guided by the principles of justice, equity, and active civic participation.
