Kaduna State Government, through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, has signed three contracts worth over N50 billion for major flood and gully erosion control projects across parts of the state.
The projects, which will be executed in Rigasa/Tudun Wada, Kawo, and Zaria Township, are aimed at addressing the growing challenges of flooding, gully erosion, and land degradation affecting communities in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Kaduna ACReSAL State Project Management Unit, the contracts were awarded after a rigorous and transparent procurement process to three reputable construction firms:
Mothercat Nigeria Limited, CGC Nigeria Limited, and Spectrum Engineering Limited.
The Rigasa/Tudun Wada construction corridor project was awarded to Mothercat Nigeria Limited.
The project, which spans over 17 kilometres, will involve structural engineering and bio-remediation works to stabilize the soil and control water flow through reinforced concrete open channels and transition sections along the corridor.
The Kawo corridor project was awarded to Spectrum Engineering Limited. Covering more than three kilometres, the project is designed to expand water channels to reduce washouts, while surface protection measures such as stone pitching, composites, and bio-remediation techniques will also be deployed.
Similarly, the Zaria corridor project was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited. The project, spanning over 11 kilometres, will feature preventive engineering structures aimed at improving water flow capacity and protecting adjoining properties as well as public infrastructure from erosion and flood damage.
The statement explained that the interventions are expected to protect lives, infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment while enhancing climate resilience and sustainable land management across the state.
It added that the projects reflect the shared commitment of the Kaduna State Government and the ACReSAL Project towards combating land degradation and promoting ecological sustainability for present and future generations.
The Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering impactful interventions that support environmental restoration, community resilience, and sustainable development across the state.
