Muhammad Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency and son of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Dr Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced the defection at plenary

According to Dr Tajudeen, Bello El-Rufai joined the ADC alongside two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kaduna State, Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa.

He also announced that Kamilu Ado, a lawmaker from Kano State, defected from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Joshua Chinedu, representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, moved from the APC to the NDC.

The lawmakers cited internal crises and uncertainty within their former parties as reasons for their defections.
