KADUNA — Dr. Bashir Hadi Ashara, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Kaduna Polytechnic, is dead.
He died on Thursday night, according to family sources.
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held later Today Friday at Danfodio Mosque in Kaduna.
Dr. Ashara was a veteran journalist who worked with the New Nigerian Newspapers and the now-defunct Nation House. During his career, he contributed to The Sentinel magazine and Nasiha newspaper.
Colleagues described him as humble and dedicated, noting his significant contributions to the media profession.
A close associate, in a Facebook post announcing his death, recalled missing a recent message from the late academic.
According to the post, Dr. Ashara had sent a greeting on Wednesday afternoon, but it went unanswered as the recipient was moderating a workshop organised by the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists in Zaria.
The associate described the incident as a reminder of the fragility of life.
Dr. Ashara was also widely respected in academia, where he mentored many students during his tenure at Kaduna Polytechnic.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, former students and associates, who remember him as an academic and a gentleman.
