Former Governor of Zamfara State and Senator representing Zamfara West, Alhaji Abdulazeez Yari Abubakar, has called on Chief Imams and Islamic scholars across the state to intensify efforts in sensitizing residents on the true teachings of Islam, with a view to fostering responsible citizenship.

He made the call during a meeting with Imams drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state, held in Talata Mafara local government area of the State.

Senator Yari emphasized the need for religious leaders to redouble their efforts in educating the public on the importance of living upright and disciplined lives that would contribute meaningfully to national development.

According to him, both the Zamfara State Government and the Federal Government are counting on Imams to play a critical role in reorienting society by promoting moral values and positive attitudes.

He noted that the role of Imams in shaping societal values and influencing positive behavioral change cannot be overemphasized, stressed the need for sustained collaboration toward the overall development of the state.

The lawmaker explained that, the meeting was convened to deliberate on the challenges confronting Zamfara State particularly insecurityand to seek the support and contributions of religious leaders through sermons and guidance rooted in Islamic teachings.

He further stressed the urgent need for fervent prayers, noting that, security remains the greatest challenge facing the state.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Malam Mummuni, disclosed that, the state government had introduced several initiatives to improve the welfare of Imams, including increased allowances, provision of vehicles, and plans to construct houses for them.

He appealed to Senator Yari to provide additional support to enable the Imams sustain prayers and spiritual efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and development.

The Deputy Governor also urged the clerics not to relent in their responsibilities of guiding the public toward righteousness.

Speaking on behalf of the Imams, Liman Mohammed Dan Alhaji Sambo assured that they would continue to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the state.

He attributed the growing unity among stakeholders to persistent prayers and expressed optimism that such unity would serve as a stepping stone for Zamfara State to overcome its challenges.
