Traders and customers were thrown into panic on Monday following an attack by suspected thugs on a major mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the busy market in broad daylight, targeting traders and shoppers and using sharp weapons to intimidate those within the area.

The incident reportedly caused chaos as people fled for safety.

The attack was said to have occurred mainly around the Yoyo Plaza axis of the market, a section known for heavy mobile phone trading activities and frequent commercial traffic.

According to multiple sources, the assailants also stole mobile phones and other valuables from traders, customers, and passersby.

The sudden nature of the attack reportedly left many unable to secure their goods or escape the scene unharmed.

There were also unconfirmed reports linking some of the attackers to a political gathering held within Kano Central earlier in the day, although authorities have not verified this claim.

Security operatives were later deployed to the area, where they reportedly dispersed the attackers and restored calm.

Normalcy was gradually returning to the market as police took control of the situation.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation on any fatalities.

However, several individuals were said to have sustained injuries during the incident, with some receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the attack, while investigations are said to be ongoing to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The attack has raised fresh concerns among traders over security in one of the state’s busiest commercial hubs, with calls for stronger protection of markets and business districts across Kano.
