Federal Fire Service has launched a strategic partnership with the Zamfara State Ministry of Budget and Planning and the SABER Initiative to strengthen safety standards and improve the ease of doing business in the state.

The State Comptroller of the Service, Sagir Garba, announced the partnership during a two-days sensitization workshops organized for key business stakeholders and market leaders in Zamfara State.

Mr. Garba highlighted that the Command has rolled out a statewide awareness campaign targeting major markets in Gusau, including the Old Central Market, New Central Market, and Tudun Wada Market.

He emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that the dry season significantly increases fire risks.

While urging motorists to always give way to fire trucks, Mr. Garba recalled a tragic incident where obstruction delayed emergency response, resulting in the loss of life.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Zamfara Ministry of Budget and Planning, Sani Abubakar Bukuyum, described the initiative as a major stride toward economic stability.

He stressed that safety must be a priority in business environments, and that preventing fire disaster is essential to protecting investments and sustaining growth, especially in key trading hubs across the state.

Mr. Bukuyum assured that the ministry would continue to support initiatives aimed at creating a safer and more business-friendly environment.

According to him, the engagement aims to reposition the fire service as a proactive partner rather than merely an emergency responder.

Other participants further highlighted the importance of involving fire safety experts during the design and construction of buildings, noting that, many existing structures lack proper escape routes, fire-resistant materials, and basic safety protocols.

The campaign also focuses on equipping traders with practical knowledge to prevent fires and contain small outbreaks before they escalate, ensuring both public safety and business continuity.
