President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, and the unity of Nigeria.

The President stated this while hosting leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to an Iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast, at the State House in Abuja.

President Tinubu said democracy remains the collective choice of Nigerians, noting that many leaders and citizens made great sacrifices to ensure democratic governance in the country.

He recalled that several pro-democracy activists endured detention, persecution, and exile during the struggle to restore democracy in Nigeria.

According to him, those sacrifices strengthened the country’s democratic institutions and deepened the commitment to a united and stable Nigeria.

The President emphasized that democracy allows citizens to freely associate with political parties and platforms of their choice without intimidation.

He stressed that in any democracy, the rule of law must prevail, noting that while the majority will have their way, the minority must also be allowed to express their views.

President Tinubu added that political disagreements should be addressed through intellectual debate and respect for democratic institutions.

He urged political actors to remain committed to peace, stability, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.
