Future Perspectives, in partnership with its development and policy division, the Africa Centre for Future Perspectives, and immediate past Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has launched a comprehensive, multi-sectoral evaluation aimed at strengthening health financing and climate adaptation across West Africa.

A statement by Mohammed Brimah, Media Office of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said the initiative, which will cover five countries, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, seeks to generate robust evidence, enhance public awareness, and inform strategic policies that will reinforce domestic health systems in the face of climate-related challenges.

Prof. Osinbajo, a longstanding advocate of climate justice and sustainable growth, will lead the initiative, which aims to advance innovative health financing solutions to help African nations withstand the growing pressures of climate change, debt obligations, and recurring environmental shocks.

“The poor and vulnerable, largely in developing economies, will be first to suffer and worst hit by the effects of climate change,” Prof. Osinbajo noted. “These multiplier effects can be drawn in other sectors, from health to shelter and security.”

The programme will kick off with a high-level consultation in Sierra Leone from March 11 to 13, 2026, hosted in collaboration with President Julius Maada Bio, who also serves as Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

According to the statement, the consultations will bring together senior ministers and national leaders whose portfolios are central to advancing climate-health financing efforts.
