The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across the state.
The decision was announced by the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Mummuni, on behalf of Governor Lawal.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Governor, the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Government House in Gusau, after a broad consultation process earlier initiated by the Governor to assess the prevailing political situation and determine the best path forward for the state.
Malam Mummuni explained that the move was informed by the deepening internal crisis within the PDP and the need to build greater unity and consensus in addressing the security and development challenges facing Zamfara State.

He further noted that, stakeholders at the meeting overwhelmingly advised the Governor to align with the ruling party’s “Renewed Hope” development agenda in the interest of stability, progress, and the collective development of Zamfara State and the nation.
The Deputy Governor urged supporters and political stakeholders across the state to begin their registration with the APC as the party commences its electronic registration exercise aimed at strengthening the progressive movement in the state.
He assured that the decision reflects Governor Lawal’s commitment to promoting unity, stability, and accelerated development for the people of Zamfara State and Nigeria.
