The Kano State Ramadan Feeding Committee has conducted an inspection tour of major restaurants and kitchens responsible for preparing meals distributed daily to beneficiaries across the state.

Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmed Tijjani, led the delegation to assess food quality, hygiene standards, and distribution processes under the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme.

The initiative, introduced by the Kano State Government, currently distributes meals across 115 feeding centres, with 1,000 plates of food provided daily at each centre.

According to the committee, the programme costs over ₦4 billion, with each meal priced at ₦1,300, translating to more than 150,000 meals served daily to residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

During the visit, the committee inspected two major kitchens that jointly produce 50,000 meals daily, with each facility supplying about 25,000 plates.

Speaking during the inspection, Tijjani said the visits were carried out on the directive of Governor Yusuf to ensure strict compliance with quality and hygiene standards.

The commissioner highlighted the programme’s economic impact, noting that the large-scale procurement of food items had stimulated business activities across markets in the state.

Tijjani urged vendors participating in the programme not to relax as Ramadan approaches its final days, stressilng that their performance in the last 10 days would influence recommendations for future contracts.

Also speaking, a food vendor, Sa’a Ada’u, disclosed that the programme had enabled her establishment to employ over 240 ad-hoc workers to support the feeding exercise.

Similarly, the catering manager of another facility, Mrs Zein, said the centre cooks about 96 bags of rice daily to meet its target of 25,000 meal packs.

She described the initiative as both a humanitarian and economic intervention, saying that the centre had employed about 250 additional workers to support cooking, packaging and sanitation activities throughout the Ramadan period.

Speaking on behalf of the workers, the head of the packaging team at the centre, Abong Shem, expressed appreciation to the state government for providing temporary employment opportunities.
