President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the community of Worro.
According to statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the troops will form a new military command under Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at curbing terrorist activity and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.
The President condemned the attack, describing it as a brutal assault on defenceless civilians.
He said the assailants deliberately targeted villagers who had rejected attempts at indoctrination and extremist recruitment.
Tinubu noted that the victims, who were Muslims, refused to embrace an extremist ideology that promotes violence, choosing instead to practise a peaceful form of Islam.
He called for close collaboration between federal and state security agencies to provide relief to affected residents and ensure those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
The President also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State, and prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed.
