The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has recorded a major financial milestone with the payment of over ₦1.13 billion out of an inherited debt of ₦1.17 billion, significantly strengthening the agency’s financial position.
The Director General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, disclosed this during the Fourth Quarter (Q4) 2025 Quarterly Review Meeting, describing the achievement as a critical step towards restoring financial stability and enhancing healthcare service delivery across the state.
“I am pleased to inform this meeting that out of the ₦1.178 billion inherited debt, the agency has successfully paid ₦1.132 billion. The remaining outstanding balance is ₦46 million,”
Pharm. Sule explained that the significant debt clearance reflects the agency’s commitment to prudent financial management, transparency, and accountability.
He attributed the success to strategic planning, effective stakeholder engagement, and strict adherence to debt sustainability frameworks.
He further noted that the period under review marked a turning point in the agency’s efforts to entrench fiscal discipline and long-term financial sustainability.
According to the Director General, another notable achievement was the improvement in the agency’s fund value, which moved from a negative balance of ₦102 million to a positive balance of ₦532 million.
He also highlighted other accomplishments, including the institutionalisation of quarterly stock counts instead of bi-annual exercises, as well as enhanced transparency and accountability in the agency’s operations.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the Director General, management team, and staff of DMCSA for their dedication and professionalism.
He urged them to sustain the momentum in support of the state government’s commitment to sound financial governance.
Dr. Yusuf reiterated the resolve of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to promote transparency and accountability, with the overarching goal of transforming the healthcare sector across the state.
The quarterly review meeting, held at the DMCSA Conference Hall, provided a platform to assess Q4 performance, review ongoing projects, examine operational challenges, and outline strategies for improved service delivery in subsequent quarters.
