The immunization exercise for the month of December has recorded significant success in Sule-Tankarkar Local Government Area of Jigawa State, as caregivers turned out en masse to ensure full vaccination of their children.
Some caregivers who brought their children for routine immunization and polio vaccination expressed delight with the smooth conduct of the exercise.
One of them, Malama Ummahani Danbala, said there was widespread awareness created by volunteer women in their community, encouraging mothers to present their children for both routine and polio immunization.
Malam Yunusa a facilitator at the local government, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise in the area.
According to him, mobilisation has been effective in the area, as people bring their children voluntarily and without resisting the vaccines.
Yunusa explained that despite being a border local government, the exercise have been conducted smoothly, since all stakeholders have been mobilized.
He pointed out that, about 45,221 children are expected to be immunised noting that schools and worship centres have been targeted to make up for missed children.
Radio Nigeria reports that the local government has 28 health facilities and the exercise was smooth in Ablasu, Kings, Amanda, Togai, Nagwamatse and Hannun Giwa communities.
The December round of the polio immunization exercise is expected to end on Friday, with a mop up of missed children across 27 local government areas of Jigawa state.
