Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on state governments, federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), the organised private sector and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward improving Nigeria’s business environment.
Speaking at the PEBEC Gala and Awards Night in Abuja, Shettima said the progress recorded this year reflects “the triumph of collaboration over silos,” noting that meaningful reforms are only possible when all actors states, MDAs, development partners and private institutions work together.
He urged stakeholders to remain committed, stressing that excellence in public service must be sustained beyond the event. “Excellence is a culture, not an event. Let us do even more in the new year to advance reforms for Nigeria’s business environment,” he said.
The Vice President emphasised that efficient institutions and transparent processes are essential to national development, adding that excellence must be deliberately cultivated.
He said the awards were meant to celebrate public servants who refuse to accept mediocrity and who drive reforms that support economic growth.
Shettima noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already laid a strong foundation for economic reforms, and the success of these efforts depends on the diligence of those honoured at the event.
Their work, he said, embodies the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthens investor confidence.
He highlighted ongoing interagency collaboration, particularly the establishment of the Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee, which is already improving port operations through joint inspection procedures.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, said PEBEC under Shettima’s leadership continues to deliver reforms that are positively impacting businesses nationwide. However, he reminded stakeholders that much work remains to be done.
The Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Audu, outlined the agency’s achievements over the past year, noting that reforms have been strengthened through deliberate collaboration with MDAs and partners across the country.
The event featured the unveiling of the 2025 Business Facilitation Act Compliance Report, the Subnational Ease of Doing Business Report, and the presentation of several awards in categories such as access to justice, legislative trailblazing, leadership in action and business advocacy.
Dignitaries at the event included deputy governors of Benue and Enugu States, top government agency heads, members of the diplomatic corps and captains of industry.
