Security Agencies have been advised to focus on their core mandate rather than interfere in the affairs of retired workers, a situation described as unfortunate.

A senior member of the Coalition of Federal Pensioners, Miss Dupe Akindele, gave the advice while expressing dismay over alleged intimidation of some officials of the retirees, particularly Comrade Mukaila Ogunbote.

Miss Akindele reminded the Federal Government of its promise to pay the arrears of thirty-two thousand naira along with this month’s pension to avert a planned protest by senior citizens next month.

She expressed concern over the delay in settling the arrears, which she said would help cushion the hardship retirees are facing due to the current economic challenges following the withdrawal of fuel subsidy in 2023.

A retired worker of NTA Kaduna, Alhaji Muktar Muhammad Katsina, also expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in payment and urged the relevant authorities to address the issue with the seriousness it deserves in recognition of the sacrifices made by pensioners.
