Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has directed the closure of all public and private schools across the state on or before Friday, 28th November 2025, as a precautionary measure in response to emerging security concerns.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Esrom Jocthan Toro, stated this during a meeting with all Local Government Education Secretaries held at his office in Gombe.

Professor Toro reiterated the governor’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressing that the decision to close schools was a proactive step aimed at preventing any unfortunate incidents.

He urged school authorities to ensure that all examinations are conducted between now and Friday, assuring parents and guardians that there is no cause for panic as the government was doing everything possible to curb insecurity and maintain peace.

In addition, Professor Toro called on Education Secretaries to compile and keep handy all necessary information about the schools under their jurisdiction.

He revealed that a taskforce committee on revitalization will soon begin assessment visits to selected schools for evaluation and necessary recommendations.

The measure comes as part of the state government’s broader efforts to safeguard students and ensure a secure learning environment amidst rising national security concerns.
