Twenty-five schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School last week Monday in Maga town, Kebbi State, have been freed and are now safe.

Governor Nasir Idris of kebbi State confirmed this to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi the state capital.

He said all the kidnapped schoolgirls were now on their way to Birnin Kebbi for official handing over ceremony tomorrow from the security agencies to the state government and reunite to their families

Nasir Idris said the release of the students was achieved through non-kinetic efforts coordinated by the military in collaboration with multiple security agencies and a tactical team had successfully rescued the girls without paying any ransom

He commended security and intelligence operatives for what he described as their swift response, dedication and professionalism as well as religious leaders and patriotic Nigerian for their prayers and sympathy during the period of captivity.

The girls were kidnapped before dawn on Monday 17, 2025 when gunmen stormed the school, and all the girls have been safely rescued and are receiving medical attention.
