The Delimi PROSPER project, a six-month initiative aimed at promoting youth-led peacebuilding, has officially kicked off in Kaduna. The project, designed by Engaging Borders SRD, seeks to empower young people in Kaduna and Plateau states to drive positive change in their communities.

60 cohorts, with 30 from each state, have been nominated to participate in the program, which focuses on climate resilience, digital advocacy, and capacity building for young people. The initiative aims to address pressing issues such as hate speech, disinformation, and negative campaigns, while promoting a culture of peace and understanding.

According to Richard Ali, Director of Engaging Borders SRD and creator of the Delimi project, the initiative takes a non-kinetic approach, emphasizing narrative change and soft approaches to preventing and countering violent extremism. “Young people are the principal victims and perpetrators of conflict in the Sahel,” Ali said. “We aim to engage borders, de-escalate conflict, and reduce tension.”

The project will combine research, storytelling, community engagement, and digital learning to achieve its objectives. Participants will receive capacity support to develop creative micro-projects that promote environmental stewardship and socio-environmental peacebuilding.

The Delimi PROSPER project is part of a broader effort to create a peaceful, clean, safe, and vibrant society for all. By empowering young people and fostering a culture of peace, the initiative aims to drive positive change in Kaduna and Plateau states.
