Police in Niger State have arrested four suspects for allegedly attacking the convoy of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago while he was leaving Bida after last Saturday’s local government council election.

The attackers were said to have hurled stones and wielded dangerous weapons, damaging some vehicles in the convoy.

A statement issued in Minna by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasi’u Abiodun, said Divisional Police Officers from A and B Divisions responded promptly and dispersed the attackers with teargas before pursuing them.

According to the statement, three suspects,  Ali Mohammed and Adamu Hussain of Nasarafu area, and Isah Umaru of Darachita area in Bida, were initially arrested. A fourth suspect, Abdulmalik Usman Nagemu, 39, of Bello Masaba area, was later picked up during a follow-up investigation.

Abiodun added that Nagemu named additional individuals believed to be connected to the incident, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them. The four suspects currently in custody are assisting police with further investigations.
