The Coalition of Federal Pensioners has held another meeting to demand the payment of outstanding benefits owed to retired workers across the country.

During the meeting in Lagos, members resolved to embark on a nationwide protest if government fails to address the lingering issues, despite several assurances given in the past.

The Coordinator and Chairman of the NIPOST Lagos Pensioners’ Association, Comrade Munkaila Ogunbole, said the Directorate of State Security Services had twice appealed for the protest to be postponed to avoid drawing unnecessary international attention.

Although noting that the National Union of Pensioners is opposed to the protest, Comrade Munkaila said he cannot stop the move, as it appears to be the only option left for the senior citizens to press home their demands.

Also speaking, a retiree, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, expressed support for the planned action, urging all federal pensioners to participate to ensure a stronger impact.
