Kaduna State Ministry of Information and Culture has partnered with the State Bureau of Statistics to enhance data awareness and strengthen capacity for accurate, data-driven reporting among journalists.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between complex government data and public understanding, promoting transparency, accountability, and deeper citizen engagement in governance processes.

The partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by the State Statistician General, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji, to the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, in Kaduna.

Dr. Bukar described the collaboration as timely and strategic in improving public appreciation of reliable data for effective planning, evidence-based policies, and sustainable development.

“How can we secure wider coverage of our activities for citizens to appreciate our contributions to development?” he asked, stressing the importance of media engagement in amplifying the Bureau’s work.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Maiyaki applauded the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the Bureau. He emphasized that data-driven governance remains integral to Kaduna State’s development priorities and pledged sustained collaboration to ensure accurate, credible, and accessible public information.

As part of the partnership, a statistics awareness retreat for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and a Data Journalism training programme for reporters will be organized to equip participants with practical skills to interpret and communicate statistical information in clear and compelling formats—strengthening the connection between government data and public understanding.
