Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown of Bagudu Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Friday night shortly after the lawmaker observed the Isha’i prayer at a community mosque.

A resident who witnessed the attack told Radio Nigeria that the assailants fired several shots into the air to disperse the crowd before forcing the deputy speaker into their vehicle and speeding away.

During the attack, a young boy assisting the deputy speaker with his footwear was shot in the leg and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. No death was recorded.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
