The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has pledged to advocate for the speedy trial of female inmates with minor cases detained in correctional facilities.
This commitment was made during a visit to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kaduna, where the association interacted with female inmates and donated essential items.
The chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna, Hajiya Sahura Maidoki, stated that the visit aimed to amplify the voices of the inmates and seek intervention through reportage.
She appealed to wealthy individuals, government, and relevant bodies to support prisoners with minor cases, enabling them to regain their freedom.
The association’s donations included slippers, toilet paper, bathing soap, panties, detergent, and baby diapers, among other essentials.
NAWOJ Kaduna also resolved to work closely with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna women wing, to ensure justice prevails through advocacy and reportage.
