The Senate has considered and approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request for the confirmation of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs.

After a screening exercise by the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff alongside the other Service Chiefs.

It also confirmed the service chiefs for appointment in various positions include chief of army staff Major General W. Shuaibu, Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral L. Abbas and chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke and chief of Defence intelligence Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye respectively.

Accordingly the confirmation is in line with Section 18 sub 1 of the Armed Forces Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and communicated to President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for his approval

All the appointees have assured Nigerians to redouble efforts in their duties with the support of the National Assembly with required legislations and budgetary provisions to ensure security of Nigerians

Similarly, the chief of Defence staff Lieutenal General Olufemi Oluyede appealed to encourage the duties of police force to be more stronger in carrying out their job while the army concentrate on safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country using technology and well trained personnel.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General W. Shuaibu said when confirmed he will leverage on technology to improve the night fighting capability.

He pledged to prioritize the welfare of the members of the Armed forces.

In his comment the deputy senate president Barau Jibrin commended president Bola Ahmad Tinubu for his intelligent selection of the service Chiefs hoping that the security issues would surely be improved for the better in Nigeria

Answering question on the position of new aircrafts purchased and the position of super Tocano asked by senator Abdul Ningi the chief of Air Staff Sunday Aneke confirmed that they are fully being utilized during their operation.

Most of the service Chiefs been screened believe that fighting war or criminality is not by strength alone, rather how one acted intelligently, thereby appealing to all stakeholders to join hands fir good synergy in the fight against terrorism ,insurgency and all forms of criminality for the country to be safe and secured.
