The Zamfara State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorists and the general public against the illegal act of covering vehicle plate numbers, particularly within Gusau, the state capital.
The warning follows increasing reports and observations of motorists driving with concealed or obscured plate numbers, described the act as a clear violation of traffic regulations that poses a serious threat to public safety and security.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the Command views the act as a deliberate attempt to evade law enforcement scrutiny and possibly facilitate criminal activities.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, emphasized that, the Command will no longer tolerate such unlawful behavior.
He disclosed that officers have been directed to commence strict enforcement, adding that any vehicle found with covered, tampered, or obscured plate numbers will be impounded, and offenders will face the full weight of the law.
CP Maikaba urged residents and motorists across Zamfara State to comply with traffic laws and cooperate with the Police in promoting a safer environment for all.
He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
