The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Mr. Danlami Nmodu on his election as the new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

Nmodu, Publisher of News diary Online, emerged President of the Guild after a keenly contested election held in Lagos.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister described Nmodu as “a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in the profession and is deserving of such commanding heights.”

Idris also commended the immediate past GOCOP President, Mrs. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of Real news Online, for providing vibrant leadership and leaving behind a legacy of honour, credibility, and growth for the Guild.

The Minister urged the new Executive to promote unity within the association and ensure inclusive leadership that guarantees participation from all members.

He further encouraged the Guild to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in the fight against fake news and misinformation, which he described as a major threat to journalism credibility.
