The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano State has announced the passing of its Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa, aged 56.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Zango Abdu, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano.

According to him, the late Mrs. Kangiwa passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2025, in Kano after a brief illness.

Ambassador Zango, who was visibly emotional, described the deceased as a trained and experienced lawyer, an accomplished administrator, and a dedicated public servant whose career was marked by professionalism, humility, and commitment to duty.

He recalled that Mrs. Kangiwa previously served as the Administrative Secretary of INEC Sokoto before her deployment to the Kano State office, where she continued to serve diligently until her demise.

“Throughout her career, Mrs. Kangiwa was admired for her kindness, modesty, and strong sense of truth, which guided her interactions with colleagues and the public,” Ambassador Zango said. “She was a source of inspiration to many, exemplifying integrity, compassion, and devotion to duty.”

He further revealed that the late Hauwa has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, describing her death as “a great loss to INEC and to all who had the privilege of working with her.”

Ambassador Zango also announced that INEC Kano has opened a condolence register for one week to enable colleagues, friends, and associates to pay their last respects.

He extended the Commission’s heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kangiwa’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants her Jannatul Firdaus and gives her loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
