Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has inaugurated the Kaduna State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (KADSEMSAS) and the Rural Emergency Services and Maternal Transport (RESMAT).

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Kaduna, the Governor said the initiative aligns with global health efforts, particularly those of the World Bank, to strengthen universal health coverage and build resilience in the health system.

He explained that the scheme was designed to address maternal and neonatal emergencies, especially in hard-to-reach areas, by removing barriers of distance and ensuring prompt medical response through an efficient ambulance system.

“Our guiding principle has been universal health coverage that benefits everybody. Through strong policies and improved coordination, particularly at the primary health care level, we have laid a solid foundation for effective health management and access to essential medicines,” Governor Sani stated.

He stressed that the launch of the scheme goes beyond emergency response, as it also demonstrates proactive leadership in preparing for and reducing the impact of health crises on citizens.

The Governor expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State House of Assembly, health professionals, traditional rulers, and community leaders for their continued support in strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

“With KADSEMSAS and RESMAT, Kaduna is once again taking a primary step in showing what leadership looks like when rooted in evidence, empathy, and decisive action,” he added.

In her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Umma Ahmed, described the launch as a milestone in Kaduna’s healthcare reforms. She explained that the project would ensure rapid response to medical emergencies, particularly for women and children in rural communities.

She noted that the system was developed to complement existing health infrastructure, strengthen referral pathways, and improve coordination among health facilities across the state.

“This initiative will save lives, especially in cases of maternal complications and road traffic accidents, where timely medical intervention makes the difference between life and death. It is a people-centered programme that speaks to our administration’s commitment to healthcare equity,” Dr. Umma Ahmed said.
